Kindle Reader
If you are looking for a device that will let you read ebooks, then the Kindle reader is definitely worth taking a look at. Also referred to as an e-reader, this device is sold by online book seller Amazon and comes in a tablet format which makes it very easy to read ebooks, no matter where you are. If you use a laptop computer or tablet PC to read when you are outside and the sun is shining, you may find that the glare often makes it very difficult to actually see what is on your screen. However, Amazon’s Kindle has been specifically engineered to prevent this problem. It makes use of e-ink (electronic paper display) technology for the screen, which replicates the way that letters are displayed on actual paper. However, it should be known that the display is in grayscale and not in color.
Another thing that separates the Kindle from other mobile computing devices is its battery life. Most other devices, such as laptops, will only give you a few hours of battery life before needing to be recharged. This means that you would constantly need to watch your battery level and make sure that the device is charged. However, if you use the Kindle Reader, you will not have this problem. If the device is completely charged, it can last up to 30 days without needing a recharge if you don’t use its wireless features. Otherwise, the battery will last 10 days if the wireless network connection is always on. This is still an excellent battery life for a mobile device.
One important question that people ask about the Kindle reader is how you can load some content on it and which types of files will it be able to read. As you may have expected, it is possible to connect the reader to a PC by using the included USB cable and therefore transfer content that you want to read to it very easily. But what is much more interesting is the other connectivity options that this reader offers. The most recent edition of the Kindle which is now being sold by Amazon around the world comes in either a 3G + WiFi or a WiFi only version. The WiFi only version lets you connect to any wireless internet hotspot that you have access to and look up information from the internet, download reading material or make purchases of electronic books directly from Amazon’s web store. The 3G + WiFi version also allows you to do this, in addition to being able to connect to Amazon’s Whispernet network through a 3G cellular connection. You do not need to use your existing cell phone plan, nor do you need to pay any monthly charges or sign a contract for this service. It basically allows you to connect to the internet wherever there is 3G cellular coverage available. So for those who often travel to places where finding a WiFi network may be quite a task, it is an extremely good option.
