Should I buy a Kindle UK Power Adapter?
I get lots questions from people asking whether they would need to purchase a UK power adapter separately for their Kindle so I thought that I would lay it out for you here.
In short: You WILL have to buy the power adapter IF you have purchased the standard Kindle WiFi.
You WON’T have to buy the power adapter if you have purchased the Kindle Keyboard 3g the Kindle Fire or the Kindle DX. All of these more expensive models come with the adapter included.
So I will have to buy this extra if I want to recharge my standard Kindle?
No, the standard kindle still comes with a USB cable which you can connect up to your computer and use your computer to charge it.
What is the point of buying the AC adapter?
Well, firstly you may not want to have to power up your computer every time you want to recharge your Kindle. Also, the USB port on a computer usually gives out a less power (about 2/3 the amount) than one plugged into a wall and so it takes longer to charge it this way.
The Kindle AC adapter is £8, do I have to buy this?
No, USB is a standard which means anything that calls itself USB must fall within a defined performance range. In short – USB is USB is USB. Any USB AC plug adapter should theoretically work with your Kindle, although only the official Amazon one guarantees the build quality and optimal power output for your Kindle device. If you own a phone which also uses an AC adapter to charge it, such as the HTC phones then you can use the AC adapter from this to charge your kindle. Be warned though – this will void your warranty.
Does the Amazon AC adapter work with other devices?
Yes, it does. Like I said – USB is USB, so you can use your Amazon adapter with ANY device which normally can be charged through your computer USB port.
Hope this clears it up for some people, as always any questions about your Kindle in the UK, send me a message through my contact form and i’ll try to get round to them all
